26 febbraio Teetering on the edge of homeschool burnout!I hadn't realized just how weary and burned out I've been feeling during this homeschooling year until it was like I had hit a brick wall last week. I was literally ready to throw in the towel and send my kids anywhere but here for school.
Chris and I have always tried to step back periodically and try to assess our parenting. What is working? What isn't working? What used to work, but sure doesn't work anymore... Unfortunately, it has been a little while since we have done that and I'm pretty sure that is why I have found myself ready to quit homeschooling, effective immediately.
In taking a fresh look, we have discovered a couple of key things:
So, my prayer right now for our family, is that these areas that we've observed will get the attention they deserve and that Chris and I will be able to keep our focus. When or if the time comes to enroll the kids in public school, I would hope that it would be a joyful decision based on what is best for the kids; not because I am kicking them out of my house! 25 febbraio Wrestling TournamentFriday was spent doing alot of driving, trying to find a school that we had never heard of way over on the other side of the mountain. We found it, though, and the kids had a great time at the wrestling tournament. James lost both of his matches, but I still think that he wrestled really well.
This is the first match:
This is the second match:
22 febbraio James gets his first victory! We are all so excited for James! He experienced his first victory in an official match last night. Papa (my Dad) took him out for ice cream afterwards. That sure made his day!
19 febbraio James' second wrestling matchCoach Chris warms up the team.
James was a little disappointed in the ref for his second match. He wouldn't get down on the mat like the other refs and really look to see if it was a real pin or not. James was clearly outwrestled here, he just felt like the match was called too soon. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes...
James' first wrestling matchThis is a video of James' first match. I was very proud of him. He was up against a kid that was a second year wrestler (this is going to be the case every time because this is our school's first year with a wrestling program) and so was more experienced than James. He was also from a heavier weight class. James wrestled him anyway because there was no one to wrestle in his own weight class that day. That being said, I thought James did great even though he didn't win. (You can hear his Auntie Brandy cheering him on!)
14 febbraio My Valentine to Jesus It goes without saying that I am celebrating 24 years of being in love with my husband (don't worry, just because it goes without saying..I will say it!), but this year I wanted to find a statement that says how I feel about my first love, and that is Jesus Christ- the Sovereign God, the Alpha and the Omega, the Creator of Heaven and Earth and my Redeemer. (This is a song from the Newsboys Adoration CD if you want to find it and listen to it.)
Happy Valentine's Day!
"In Christ Alone" Words and Music by Keith Getty & Stuart Townend Copyright © 2001 Kingsway Thankyou Music In Christ alone my hope is found; He is my light, my strength, my song; This cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, When fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My comforter, my all in all— Here in the love of Christ I stand. In Christ alone, Who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save. Till on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied; For ev'ry sin on Him was laid— Here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain; Then bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victory, Sin's curse has lost its grip on me; For I am His and He is mine— Bought with the precious blood of Christ. No guilt in life, no fear in death— This is the pow'r of Christ in me; From life's first cry to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No pow'r of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand; Till He returns or calls me home— Here in the pow'r of Christ I'll stand. 12 febbraio A Weekend of WorshipI am still trying to catch my breath after an amazing weekend. We had a solid weekend of the whole worship team spending time together, praying, rehearsing, laughing, eating and worshiping.
Our worship team didn't go away for a retreat this year. Instead, we had the retreat come to us! We hosted a weekend workshop with a local worship leader. He came and listened to us worship together as a team and then he spent the rest of the weekend encouraging us and challenging us on how we can make the worship experience even more glorifying to God and more dynamic for our church family.
I think that I came away with about four major things from this past weekend.
1. In worship, make every song and every word really count. Look for the words or phrases that carry the most impact and do what you can musically to expand on it.
2. As a women's worship team, I was very encouraged to know that we are on the right track with the direction we've been heading. I feel encouraged to be bolder in my expression of love for Jesus.
3. In regards to all of the potential copyright issues, we are in compliance and in good standing with the intent of CCLI.
4. As a leader, I feel encouraged to really examine the strengths of everyone on the team and do my best to encourage them and give them opportunities to blossom and bless God and the church family with the gifts and talents that have been entrusted to them.
So, I won't go on and on about all of this, but I think that it was a weekend of real confirmation, personally, and I am at peace with the direction that I feel God leading me in regard to serving Him in the worship ministry. Thank You, Jesus for a wonderful and sweet weekend with the worship team. Thank You for church leadership that is so supportive. And thank You for our leader, John. I pray that You bless Him and his wife, Terri for the countless hours that they spend behind the scenes that make our worship ministry work. 02 febbraio Looks like I'm "it".Okay, I've been tagged.. Looks like I'm going to take a break from watching the snow fall outside and answer some fun questions. (Thanks, Annette!
Two names I go by: Mommy and Lis
Two things I am wearing right now: My favorite pair of Levi's and a new red t-shirt from the Eddie Bauer outlet store. (I'm celebrating because I've lost enough inches that the store I used to shop at told me that they couldn't really help me any more. I got kicked out of the women's section and don't feel too bad about it!)
Two things you want (or have) in a relationship: Someone who is genuinely interested in my hopes and dreams and inspires me to go after them, and someone who truly appreciates me even if I fail.
Two of my favorite things to do: Sit down in front of the piano and wipe out a good hour or so before I even realize that it's gone, and take off on an adventure with my husband and my kiddos, even if it's just for the day.
Two things I did last night: I celebrated my sister's birthday with her and all of the family (except for Tim- We missed him because he had to work) at Olive Garden, and I made a late night mad dash through the grocery store to stock up on the essentials because we are snowed in again. I don't think that I can get the mini-van out of the driveway today. Sure is pretty outside, though!
Two things that I'm going to do tomorrow: If I can get out of the driveway, I plan to go to church and I plan to find something to amuse myself while the rest of the world takes part in the yearly mania that we call the SuperBowl.
Two longest car rides: I think that it's a tossup between driving with mom and dad in the old green stationwagon to Yellowstone or driving with mom and dad in the big green motorhome (the "Jolly Green Giant") to southern California. I'm not sure what my parents had about green transportation there for a while, but we sure had fun.
Two favorite drinks: A good, strong cup of coffee with chocolate raspberry creamer or can of Barq's Rootbeer.
Two things that you might not know about me: Playing piano in front of people can still terrify me unless I am lost in worshiping Jesus and even though I love it when my house is all clean ("dialed in" is what I call it) there is almost always a corner or closet somewhere that is in complete disarray.
Two jobs I have had in my life: My first job was when I was 14 at the local Dairy Queen. Another job that I've had was working at a fabric store and pretending to know how to sew when I really didn't. I learned more working there than I ever did when I took sewing in highschool!
Two movies that I could watch over and over: I have all of the seasons of Little House On The Prairie and I could never get tired of watching them and I love watching Anne of Green Gables.
Two of my favorite foods: I love fresh, baked sour-dough bread. Don't eat it very often, but boy do I love it! And I love homemade tacos the way my family has always made them. Mmmmmmm... makes me hungry just thinking about it.
Two places I'd rather be right now: If I couldn't be exactly right where I am ('cause I'm pretty happy at the moment) then I'd rather be somewhere sunny and warm where I could let the kids swim, go for a long bike ride and feel the sun on my face.
Five people I'm tagging: Karen, I know Annette tagged you, but I'm tagging you too, just to put a little more pressure on you
